ThinkQuest Project Learning Institute 2010

The ThinkQuest Project Learning Institute, organized by the Oracle Education Foundation was held at Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram from 18 – 21 May 2010. ThinkQuest is a protected, online learning platform that enables teachers to integrate learning projects into their classroom curricula and students to develop 21st century skills. It includes a project environment where teachers and students engage in collaborative learning; a competition space where students participate in technology contests; the award-winning ThinkQuest Library, a learning resource visited by millions; and a professional development program for educators.

The Project Learning Institute is a rigorous learning experience for the teachers as they spend 5-6 weeks of virtual training followed by a 4 days of In-Class training during PLI. After PLI, the teachers were equipped with a plan to be implemented in their schools. It was participated by 45 teachers from 10 Core Schools of DPS Society.

The inauguration took place on the 18th of May.  Mr.Ajay Kapur, Director, Oracle Education; Ms.Gayle Britt, the facilitator and resource person from USA; Ms.Hui Seng Boon, resource person from Singapore and Mr.John Yeo from Singapore and Mr.Sofijandi from Indonesia attended the institute as observers as they prepare to launch similar programs in their own countries. Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman of DPS Society graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Dr. D. R. Saini, principal of DPS, R.K.Puram warmly welcomed all the guests.

Students shared their own experiences, preparing for this moment, learning among others, various skills of accumulating information, sharing knowledge and experiences, and putting these all together in the form of a website as a part of ThinkQuest International Webdesigning competition.

The Chairman, Mr.Ashok Chandra expressed his immense pleasure at being associated with the ThinkQuest project and highlighted the importance of such endeavors in empowering teachers through the use of information technology to enhance learning process and he specifically liked the protected environment of ThinkQuest that makes it safe for the students. This was followed by a medley of dances, the fusion of Classical and Western, showcased by the students of DPS RKPuram.

During the closing ceremony, held on the 21st, Ms Renu Mittal, Director of DPS Society was the chief guest. Mrs. Mittal emphasized that the learning took place during the event should be carried forward by each of the teachers in their respective schools and they are required to train more teachers to ensure its meaningful implementation in the new CCE system. Facilitators Ms. Gayle Britt and Ms. Hui Seng Boon shared the stage alongwith adjuncts Ms. Sohini Chakravarty and Ms. Nivedita Koka to share their experiences of the past 4 days. Participants also expressed their gratitude at being a part of this initiative and re-iterated the aspirations of this program being carried forward. Certificates and framed photographs were handed out to all the participants before adjourning the session.

The event would not have been the colossal success that it was without the efforts of Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Head of Department of Computers, who coordinated the event, his team of dedicated teachers, technical support staff and all the students who spent countless hours preparing for it.
