Model United Nations Conference (
La Martiniere, Kolkata)
8th to 10th May 2010

La Martiniere, Kolkata, hosted its second Model United Nations Conference, from 8th to 10th May 2010.Twelve students of classes XI and XII (Aditya Agrawalla, Pranav Obhrai, Kopal Goyal, Sanya Kumar, Sahil Chaudhry, Zubin Dash, Shagun Gupta, Sanjeevi Seshadri, Garima Sharma, Mehak Kapur, Divya Yadav and Arpit Gupta) from Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, were accompanied by Ms. Sudeepta Chatterjee for the conference.
The Orientation programme for all outstation schools took place on 7th of May 2010, at five in the evening. It was an informal event, which gave an opportunity to all student delegates to meet and interact with their committee members and chairpersons.
The Inaugural ceremony took place in the morning on 8th of May 2010, after the registration process. The chief guest for the event was Mr. Somnath Chatterjee, Former Speaker of the Lok Sabha who gave a truly inspiring speech, which motivated the student delegates to put their best foot forward. The Principal of La Martiniere for Boys School, Mr. S. Chakravarthi, duly acknowledged the role of DPS MUN hosted by Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram in 2007 as an inspiration for La Martiniere to start the first ever MUN in eastern India in 2009. The student delegates were then ushered in to their respective committee rooms. The first day of the conference finally came to an end at around six in the evening.
The second day of the conference which took place on Saturday, 9th of May 2010, commenced at eight in the morning, where the attempt was to resolve all the ‘crisis’ in the various committees namely Security Council, General Assembly (1), General Assembly (P), Human Rights Council and ECOSOC. This was followed by a lunch break around one thirty and finally the day came to an end at around six with several resolutions being passed.
On the final day of the conference, 10th of May 2010, the committees concluded by lunchtime. The Closing Ceremony took place at four in the evening. Sanjeevi Seshadri, Mehak Kapur, Zubin Dash and Sahil Chaudhry were conferred the ‘Best Delegate’ award. Zubin and Sahil also received ‘Best Position Paper’, Arpit Gupta received ‘High Commendation’, Shagun Gupta, Pranav Obhrai and Kopal Goyal were awarded ‘Special Mention’. Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram was adjudged the ‘Best Delegation’.
