CBSE Orientation Programme
For In service Teachers of Informatics Practices
10-11 October 2009

Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram organized an Inservice Teachers Orientation Programme on Informatics Practices for CBSE Schools on 10th and 11th October 2009.The prime objective of the programme being to train teachers on the revised content of Informatics Practices XI-XII and Foundation of Information Technology of IX-X. Over 70 teachers from 60 renowned schools of Delhi registered to participate in this programme. Dr. Srijata Das, Education Officer, CBSE and Prof. M.P.S. Bhatia, Computer Science Department, NSIT were the Chief Guests during the inaugural session.
The programme commenced with the Lighting of the Lamp by the Chief Guests. The Principal, Dr.D.R.Saini extended a warm welcome to all the delegates and hoped that the programme would help them demystify the new course. Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Head of the Computer Science Department, introduced the guests. Dr. Srijata Das highlighted the role of CBSE in the changing scenario of Technology Enhancements. Prof. M.P.S. Bhatia discussed the learning objectives of changes in the IP Curriculum.
The orientation programme started with a session on installation of Netbeans and MySql with the help of demonstration of these Open Source Software by Mr. Mukesh . Apart from this, the session included a quick exposure to various kinds of open tools which can help teachers in organizing their classroom presentations and schedules using notepad2, Google Documents, Google Calender etc. The post lunch session of the day one included GUI Programming using NetBeans, where emphasis was given on creating simple and interesting GUI applications. After that teachers were asked to develop applications on their own in the practical session. The day one session ended with Frequently Asked Questions related to GUI programming.
Day two session started with informative and interactive MySQL session by Mr. Ashwin Dash, HOD Computer Sc. Dept, Mother’s International School, who emphasized on transition from Oracle SQL to MySQL followed by a practical session on the same. The post lunch session by Mr. Mukesh was the most interesting session wherein he discussed Data Connectivity, where the teachers were shown the steps to establish data connectivity between an application developed in NetBeans and MySQL. Later the teachers themselves tried developing an application with database connectivity and gained confidence in it. Case Studies were also discussed in areas of e-Governance, e-Business and e-Learning. Teachers were also exposed to issues like IPR and threats of Viruses and Security. The last session introduced the latest methodologies of teaching to improve teaching learning process.
At the end of the two days' programme, participating teachers received Digital Content on CD to be used by them as easy reference and course completion certificates. The programme was a one of a kind endeavour to ensure that the participants are equipped to transact the new course and was a roaring success.
