work.

technology providers: the Class Teacher Learning System
(www.classteacher.com). The service provider has designed
a virtual school, which gives parents access to worksheets,

Theme-Based
Weeks
Theme-based weeks are organised, which
entail participation across the school.

falling friends are they, with whom I converse day by
day."

away from excessive television viewing and encourage
them to develop an interest in reading, by exposing
them to the exciting, wonderful and magical world of
Books.
India Week: The creation
of "India Corner" highlights the art, architecture,
handicraft, music, dance, dress and food of different
parts of India, and is indeed a journey through the
varied, yet rich cultural heritage of our country. It
creates an atmosphere charged with patriotism. Unfurling
the National Flag, singing the National Anthem and presenting
a rich cultural programme during Morning Assembly reinforces
the spirit of nationalism.
Social Consciousness Week:
"Make the child a crusader of change, and you are
sure to reach success." Sensitizing children to
spend time with the aged, by visiting Old Age Homes
and believing in the concept of dignity of labour. Sharing
quality time with the Tamana Special School for the
differently-abled and the Anubhav Shiksha Kendra for
the under privileged, is our commitment.
Leadership Week: The activities
during this week emphasize on developing self- confidence,
self reliance, co-operation, team spirit and effective
communication skills.

here is to create awareness of how to conserve our resources,
recycle waste, preserve wild-life, contain pollution

Trophy and The Best Speakers award amongst sixty participant
schools. They were also the only junior most team to
have entered this competition.
Fancy dress: Impersonating
characters of Fairy Tales and role-play stimulates the
young minds.
Teacher Workshops
The teacher plays the role of a facilitator-ensuring
that the child is exposed to an enriched environment,
to a variety of experiences that will strike a balance
between quiet and active, between group and individual
activities; between indoor and outdoor events.
Our aim is to develop and maintain
a balance between the child's Intelligence Quotient,
Emotional Quotient and try to tip the balance in favour
of the Joy Quotient. Teacher-training workshops are
a step in this direction. The themes behind some of
these workshops include:
- Removing Maths Phobia
- Team Effectiveness
- Road Safety for children
- Coping with learning disabilities
- Diversity in the class rooms
- Promoting Reading Habits
- Stress Management
- Uses of Multimedia
- Rainwater Harvesting
- Spiritualism
- Project teaching
- Value Education
Interaction
with Parents
The School works in close cooperation
with the parents. Through frequent parent teacher interaction,
various issues are examined concerning performance,
levels and new solutions to different types of behavior
patterns are tired out. Regular newsletters are sent
for parents to keep them updated.
A Global
Perspective
To shape the students into truly Global
citizens of tomorrow, the school organizes visits by
International dignitaries. This gives the students an
opportunity to learn about other countries and their
cultures. In accordance with this objective, Japanese
delegates distinguished Members of Parliament from Japan
visited the school this year, which enabled the students
to gain a deeper understanding of the various aspects
of Japanese education and culture. An Indo-Japanese
Exchange Program of students and teachers between two
Elementary schools of Japan and Delhi Public School
has cemented Indo-Japanese friendship. E-mail contact
with schools in England is being maintained for exchange
of information that is likely to culminate in Home-to-Home
Exchange. We hope to contribute to 'One World'.
Trips, Visits and Excursions:
"He who does not travel does not know the value
of men".
School Trips: The school
plans fun trips, educational excursions and visits to
social organizations. Adventure trips for students are
organized to hill-stations, sanctuaries and ancient
temples. Educational excursions to science centres and
manufacturing plants also form on integral part of the
curriculum.
Team Work and Support: We
consider teamwork an important tool in the transition
of the young individual to social maturity. Sports and
excursions are powerful yet fun manifestations of teamwork
and an integral part of our school curriculum. By allowing
students to experience events first hand, we are also
giving them a chance to explore options, look at different
ways of living and be sensitized. In the process, they
are learning to make decisions, developing organizational
skills, crisis management, building up a rapport with
their peer group and a healthy competitive spirit.
To sum up, the children are taught
to 'take on the odds’.
Living in tents, cycling, rock climbing,
bird watching, safari rides, trekking are our first
steps towards self-reliance and discipline.
