Delhi Public Schools, with the motto "Service
Before Self", have been serving the Society in
the field of education for the last 56 years. There
are presently as many as 130 schools under its aegis,
both in and outside India. The growing number of schools
under this organizational umbrella signifies how the
need to provide meaningful education, to a large number
of children, desirous of growing into educated &
liberated human beings, has been fulfilled. Founded
and managed by distinguished members and luminaries
of society, culled from the various walks of life, the
organization has always guided its member schools on
the path of progress with their visionary approach &
lofty ideas. Consequently, Delhi Public Schools have
become significant portals of learning and growth of
young minds. Our credo is to provide an all round development
& sound moral base. Fostering character building
& nurturing the inquisitive spirit of children,
encouraging scientific temperament & strengthening
social bonds, are our constant endeavours. Surging ahead
with a spirit of healthy competition, balancing a successful
career teamed with a contented life, is the gift we
give to all our children. Guiding us in this effort
of ours is Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman DPS Society,
who is our constant beacon and source of strength.
School Philosophy
The schools of the DPS Society are centres where :
- We aim to preserve and enhance the highest standards of excellence and prepare generations for the 21st century.
DPS students are helped to master the expanding
horizons of technology and also become
the repository of a deep commitment to
indian ethos and culture in its pristine
form.
- DPS students are equipped to access the best opportunities of growth and advancement by being prepared linguistically and culturally for them. The concept of enlightened citizen of the world will be the backdrop of all their endeavours.
- DPS Students will be carefully sensetized to environmental concerns, the feeling of nationalism and communal harmony.
- DPS schools are available to the best minds
at the most reasonable and affordable cost.
No deserving and talented child will find the
doors of DPS closed because of financial disability.
Special efforts are made through resource centres
for children with special needs. Education
of the marginalised children is being ensured
through non-formal learning centres, DPS Shikhsa
Kendras.
The DPS Society is a non-profit, non-proprietary
educational body widely recognised for its progressive
approach and commitment to excellence. Distinction
and diversity are the twin hallmarks of our philosophy,
educational leadership and scholarly achievement,
our mission. Strong in tradition we have evolved
as a matrix of networking among the state, national
and international educational institutions.
History
In the last fifty-two years DPS has produced
a galaxy of eminent men and women, who
have brought glory to it not only in India but
abroad as well.
From a small beginning in the President's Estate
in 1941 as Church High School to Naveen Bharat
School in 1947 and finally in 1949 at its present
location on Mathura road, DPS has traversed a
long journey. The birth of a new nation in 1947,
was in a way the beginning of DPS (called Naveen
Bharat then). A momentous time in the history
of our nation, when a beginning was made to fulfil
a social, national need. DPS was a not a silent
witness to the trials and tribulations of the
growing metropolis, but contributed richly to
the growth of the capital, especially academic.
DPS Mathura Road was the only DPS till 1972. But the parent DPS was ready to spread its wings. The many off-springs, 95 schools as on Ist September 2002, that followed from R.K.Puram in 1972 are simple assertions of the strength that is DPS. Yet what has remained unchanged is the zest and spirit to achieve and excel.
As it has been said, " It is good to have an end to journey towards, but it is the journey that matters, in the end." The involvement of the Society in universal educational enhancement and its endeavor to build a democratic, pluralistic and secular nation has made all the difference. It is no more a question of lighting a candle here or there; it is an attempt at total electrification. The whole world has begun to glow with the light of literacy radiated by the Delhi Public School Society.
A Holistic Approach to Education
For almost five decades, the Society has developed with a spirit and a vision. Today its stands as a 'citadel of learning', and a harbinger of 'Quality Consciousness' committed to developing the minds and initiative of children. The vitality of the classrooms, the energy of the playing fields and the open friendliness of the work environment, have enabled its students to reach their fullest potential whether it is securing distinctions in the Board examinations or winning accolades in drama, debates, quizzes or sporting activities. The special character of the DPS Society has shaped the destinies of each individual entering its folds.
