DPSMUN 2007
|
| |
Delhi Public School R.K. Puram under the aegis of the DPS Society and in collaboration with UNA-USA will be hosting the Model United Nations Conference DPS MUN 2007, on the 24th, 25th and 26th of November, 2007 at the India Habitat Centre. The names of dignitaries gracing the occasion on all the days is enclosed for ready reference. The Conference is sponsored by Merrill Lynch, one of the world’s leading financial management and advisory companies, which offers a grant of US $ 35,000 per annum for this event. This office of Global Philanthropy also sponsors students and teachers to attend the Model UN UNA-USA Conferences held annually at New York. The underlying philosophy of DPS MUN is to recognize the importance of the United Nations as a forum of international opinion, and also provide a unique educational experience through simulation. This helps participants to understand a multicultural view of world affairs, developing debating skills and learning the art of negotiation. While globalization brings people closer, it also requires children to develop certain skills to enable them to understand the inter-connected world. Global classrooms help today’s youth to become tomorrow’s global ambassadors and business leaders. This year, the DPS MUN 2007 Conference will host 700 High School teachers and students from all over India and other countries, including Sharjah, Dubai, Nepal, Kuwait, Pakistan, U.K. and China. 140 countries of the United Nations will be represented at the simulation of nine committees which include the General Assembly, Security Council, ECOSOC, Human Rights Council, General Assembly Plenary, Historical Security Council, Economic & Social Council, Asia Pacific, Committee on Science, Technology & Development and the Commission on Status of Women.
The three-day Conference will, apart from building bridges across cultures, also empower the student community to cut across artificial divides of country and religion, and gain a global perspective on world affairs.

EXUN 2007
|
| |
On 10th and 11th of November 2007, Delhi Public School RK Puram organized its 12th annual inter-school computer symposium - EXUN 2007.
Exun, the name by which the Computer Club of Delhi Public School R.K. Puram is known, stands for ‘Experts Unlimited’. Originating in 1993, Exun is now a team that consists of 50 members from Classes VI to XII having expertise in different fields of Information Technology such as programming, quizzing and web designing.
The Exun symposium has always been the pioneer amongst computer symposia, not only in Delhi but also all over India. The first Exun symposium was organized in 1996 with the aim of bringing together students interested in pursuing excellence in technology. Exun is not just about competition; it is about facilitating interaction and further development in the field of technology among the youth, which is imperative with the advent of the global era.
Despite Diwali being a day before the commencement of the event and as a result schools being closed, about 35 schools with over 350 school students took part in the various events. Apart from the regular schools who participate in interschool competitions frequently, Exun ’07 also featured several new schools from Delhi and NCR and one school from outside, that is, DPS Aligarh.
Exun 2007 was sponsored by Pavna Computers, a new company, set to have its nation-wide launch in December 2007. DPS R.K.Puram’s association with Pavna goes a long way as the CEO of Pavna Computers, Mr. Swapnil Jain, is also an ex-student of the school. Pavna Computers aims to build computers customized to suit India’s needs rather than adopting foreign models, as is the trend today. During Exun 2007, Pavna Computers displayed more than 15 models of their Desktops and Laptops.
The opening ceremony was graced by Mr. Yashwant Deshmukh and Mr. Vaibhav Jain, both Directors of Pavna Computers. It commenced with the Exun introductory video, which received remarkable appreciation for its innovation, uniqueness and special effects. The Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. (Mrs.) Shyama Chona, Principal, DPS RK Puram. While she inspired everyone to move forward on the strenuous journey to excellence, she also laid emphasis on the need for spending time to decipher the innumerable stimuli present in the world today, and thinking for a moment before reacting to them. The Guest of Honour, Mr. Yashwant Deshmukh then enlightened the audience with a few experiences in his tryst with technology.
Exun has always had a comprehensive array of events. This year’s Exun had two Quizzes (Junior and Senior level respectively), two Programming contests (one for debugging and the other for problem-solving), a Crossword, Group Discussion, Gaming Event, and a Surprise Event, titled ‘Venture Labs’. Exun has always strived to achieve a balance between quality and quantity; every one of the eight events that took place, got the participants completely engrossed. The highlight of all the events was the Surprise Event. In this event, the participants posed as entrepreneurs and presented their ideas to a panel of judges, who critically examined their proposals like venture capitalists in the IT world.
The judges for Exun 2007 were alumni of Exun from earlier batches, working and studying in different parts of the world.
As always, this year’s Exun symposium too symbolized excellence, skill and enthusiasm in the field of Information Technology. Exun believes in dynamism and motion, speed and efficiency. Exun's main website ‘www.exunclan.com’ was updated with the results of each event within minutes of its completion. This level of effectiveness and processing is, to date, unparalleled by any other technology symposium. Participants from every school commended Exun on being highly organized and also acknowledged the high level of competition in all the events.
Exun 2007, finally concluded with the much awaited prize distribution where the chief guest was the CEO of Pavna, Mr. Swapnil Jain, himself. He and the Principal handed out trophies to the winners as well as mementos of appreciation to the Exun judges.
Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj bagged the Overall Trophy for the highest cumulative score, and Apeejay School, Noida took away the Overall Runners Up, followed by Delhi Public School Dwarka, who were the Second Runners Up. Apart from the trophies, the top three schools were also awarded latest PC’s from Pavna.
