‘SPRING’S POT-POURRI’ – A MUSICAL EXTRAVAGANZA
|
| |
Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram is staging a mega-production entitled “Spring’s Pot-pourri” on 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th October, 2007 at 6.30 p.m. in the school premises.
“Spring’s Pot-pourri’s about the transformation that occurs in the life of a child around the age of 12. It is a musical which portrays their yearnings and emotions, their mindset and ambitions, and their passions of love and hate, success and failure. In our fast-paced world, some simple souls get left behind, not because they are not good enough, but because they did not choose to join the rat-race. This presentation is an attempt to answer the questions adolescents have on their minds, such as ‘Will I make it big? ‘ and ‘Will I be happy?’
The presentation is by 160 students of classes 6 and 7. The brain-child of the Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Shayama Chona, it is an in-house production which has evolved with the contribution of both the parent community and the teachers of the school. The play is directed by Ms. Sonia Khan who has been able to bring out the immense potential that lies within each child and has effectively involved the participants in both on-stage and off-stage activities. This play is an eye-opener to the fact that many situations in the life of a child require a long-term investment of love and encouragement, along with the development of the child’s self-esteem. It has been a unique experience for one and all and has made this theatre experience a “complete” one.

BUSINESS MELANGE 2007
|
| |
The business mélange took place at DPS R.K. Puram. It is an eagerly awaited event which takes place annually. Thirteen schools from all over Delhi participated in the event. It was held on the 14th of September 2007 in the Audio Visual Hall.
The Chief Guest for this event was Mr. P.C. Jain, the Principal of the Sri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University. The judges were Mrs. Bhuvani Ravi, parent of one of the students at D.P.S. R.K. Puram, and Director of Abhay Capital Services; Ms. Shivani Nagrath, a teacher from Summerfields School; and Lavanya Pandey, a college student from S.R.C.C.
The program commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest, closely followed by the Sarasvati Vandana, and a welcome address delivered by the Vice Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini. The young toddlers of Anubhav Shiksha Kendra put up a dazzling dance performance. This was followed by a jazz and kathak fusion dance performed by students of D.P.S. R.K. Puram, after which the Principal addressed the gathering followed by the chief guest, Mr. P.C.Jain.
The Principal, in her welcome address, talked about the storehouse of talent the school has, and how, backed with the prestige of institutions like D.P.S. R.K. Puram and S.R.C.C., the students can reach their pinnacles of glory. The chief guest then inspired us, with his words of wisdom. He compared school life’s discipline with college life’s freedom. He talked of the importance of the effort we put in and how this effort shapes our character. “Personality can open our doors…. Character will keep those doors open”, he said.
The mélange began with the Ads Act Competition, which is a spoof on products, ‘advertised’ by the students. This helps hone the students’ marketing skills and the essence of the ‘Ads Act’ is humour. Modern School, Vasant Vihar, had the crowd in splits of laughter as they sold to the audience their ‘Thinking Tiara’. Simultaneously, the poster making competition was taking place in the Blossoms Block Seminar Room. The ‘Just a Minute’ Competition took place soon after, with the humour of the Ads Act dissolving into hard facts of the business world. Kartik then enthralled the crowd with his dance. The school choir sang ‘My Song’ a composition by Mr.Rajesh Upadhyay, the Western Music teacher. Finally the results were announced. The rolling trophy was given to Vasant Valley School who shone in the ads act with the second prize and bagged the first in poster making. Gyan Bharti was the runners up.
The mélange, indeed, was a success. It defined talent, it defined a commitment and it defined, more than ever, how the world of entrepreneurship is translated into pure fun by the youth of today.
