ADVENTURE TRIP TO SITLAKHET

The school organized an Adventure Trip to Sitlakhet from 3rd to 8th June 2007. 61 students and 07 teachers from our school attended this camp. Staying in tents in a dense forest was a new and exciting experience for all of us. From 4th - 7th June all students participated in adventure activities like Flying Fox, Rappelling, Rock climbing, Bouldering, Trust fall etc. In the evening students participated in several interesting camp games and activities. On 7th senior students Trekked from Sitlakhet to Ranikhet through mountains. It was very tiring but the sense of achievement at the end of it was very satisfying. The cooking competition amongst the juniors was great fun. The groups were adjudged on the basis of participations of all members, co-ordination, taste of cooked item and presentation. An all boys group bagged 1 5t position. All the activities were good exposure for the students. They learnt to care and share. Adventure activities boosted their morale. Hanaut Singh and Oamini Maini were adjudged the Best Campers among Juniors. Anagh Bali and Neetika Anand were adjudged best Campers among Seniors. Dhruv Suri of Class VIII got Chicken Pox and his parents, who were in Ranikhet, took him back. Niharika of Class XI had fainted while trekking but the doctor escorting the group handled the situation. On the whole this trip was a good learning experience for the students as well as teachers.

Model United Nations Simulation

18th July 2007 The Political Science Department conducted a Model United Nations Simulation at the AVH from 1.30 p.m. – 4.30 p.m. This simulation was for Class XI, to acquaint them with true values and procedures of Model UN. The students were allotted a topic “Global Warming”, and as delegates of different countries, debated, forged alliances and passed resolution on issues concerning their country’s foreign policy. Seventy students of Class XI Participated in the simulation. Ms. Bopana was the teacher-in-charge and witnessed the proceedings.

Investiture Ceremony at D.P.S. R.K.Puram

 Monday, the 13th of August 2007, was a red-letter day for D.P.S. R.K. Puram when the school conducted its Investiture Ceremony. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mrs. Renuka Chowdhury, Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Independent Charge, Government of India. The other dignitaries present were Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman D.P.S. Society and Managing Committee DPS R.K.Puram; Mr. P.C. Bose and Mr.Sharma, Members, Managing Committee D.P.S. R.K. Puram; Raja Randhir Singh, Secretary General, Olympic Council of Asia and Vice Chairman of Commonwealth Games; Mr. Gurbir Singh, an Olympian and father of Manavjeet Singh, an ex-student of D.P.S.R.K.Puram and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardee; Anjum Chopra, another former student of the school and an Arjuna awardee; Mrs Perya Short, Education Counsellor, New Zealand High Commission, Mr.Madhukar;and Mrs.Asha Rani Gupta – a renowned fashion designer.
 The programme began with a Yoga performance and Vedic chanting by the students of Class VI. This was followed by an inspiring speech by the Principal, Dr. Shayama Chona. She stressed on the importance of uplifting the status of women and ‘recognizing them within the four walls of the house and beyond’. She also emphasized on the need to make girls economically independent and help them reach their optimum potential. The Chairman D.P.S. Society, Mr.Ashok Chandra, congratulated Dr. Chona and the school for setting high standards in the field of education and extra-curricular activities alike. He emphasized on the need to make quality education accessible to all children, but asserted that schools like D.P.S R.K. Puram should lead the way. The Chief Guest, Mrs. Renuka Chowdhury in her address, acknowledged Mrs. Chona’s sustained and remarkable efforts in translating her vision into reality, and in taking steps towards creating free and compulsory education for all. She talked at length about the various policies of the Government of India for the welfare of women and children, such as the Integrated Child Protection Scheme, amendment of the Juvenile Justice Act for children and changes in the adoption law. In her view, what sets D.P.S. R.K. Puram apart from other schools is the exposure it provides to its students on diverse social responsibilities, the needs of the underprivileged and the deprived, thus acting as a benchmark for other schools.
The school appointments then took the oath of office “to uphold the values and traditions of the school and dedicate ourselves to the motto – ‘Service before Self’ “and pledged to take it to even greater heights. The Head Boys and the Head Girls expressed their views on the future of the school. The Head Boy and the Head Girl of D.P.S. Shiksha Kendra also expressed their pride in being a part of this institution. The budding blossoms of D.P.S. Shiksha Kendra presented a dance performance based on the song ‘Rang De Basanti Chola’ reflecting the spirit of independence. The students of Class VIII showcased their talent in the form of a tribal dance of the hills of Chattisgarh. A scintillating Western dance was also presented by the students of Class XII. And finally, the third edition of the quarterly newsletter ‘Vision Biotech’ was inaugurated by the Chief Guest.
 The Vote of Thanks was delivered by the Vice Principal, Dr. D.R. Saini, who elaborated on the need to maintain the standards set by the school. The Investiture ceremony came to a close with the National Anthem, rekindling the spirit of patriotism in one and all.
