MATHEMATICAL CRUSADE 2009 - An Inter-school Mathematics Contest
 


The Mathematics Lab & Technology Centre organized an interschool mathematics contest titled MATHEMATICAL CRUSADE 2009 on12th December 2009. 36 schools from Delhi and the NCR region participated in this grand event. The primary objective of the contest was to encourage students to engage in creative and original thinking, to inculcate a spirit of research and to enable them to appreciate the relevance of Mathematics as a discipline in real life. The contest comprised of two mathematics quizzes, a problem-solving relay round, and two puzzles contests. The event was inaugurated by the Principal, Dr D.R. Saini. In his inaugural address he discussed three secrets of developing a love for mathematics, namely visualizing concepts, computing interesting problems and discussion with peers. He emphasized that learning mathematics forms an integral part of a child’s education and events such as these help to evoke mathematical skills in students. Dr. Sushma Suneja, Head of the Mathematics Department and Mr. Anil Kathuria , Incharge, Mathematics Lab & Technology Centre, DPS R K Puram, along with the students of the Mathematical Society coordinated the event. The best overall team position was bagged by DPS R.K.Puram but being the host school, the winning trophy went to DPS Noida. The overall runners up was Mother’s International School while the overall second runners up was DPS Dwarka.

The event provided the students with a common platform to share their innovative mathematical ideas. The interactive exposure promoted mathematical thinking and creativity and also led to a competitive spirit among students.
