The event was organized by the DPS Society in association with Max Mueller Bhavan. Eight schools, the zonal finalists took part in the Quiz. The Chief Guest was Mr.Ashok Chandra, Chairman of DPS Society. Mr.Eberhard Weller, Language Director of Max Mueller Bhavan was the Guest of Honour. Other esteemed guests included Ms.Renu Mital, Director,DPS Society, Mr.R.Taneja,Secretary; Ms.Puneet Kaur, Pasch Coordinator, Max Mueller Bhavan; Ms.Nicole Menzenbach, Director, German Information Centre ; Dr.Mark Sly, Principal, Coomera Anglican College, Oxenford, Queensland, Australia and Ms.Bindu Sehgal, officiating Principal of DPS Vasant Kunj. The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the Chairman, Mr.Ashok Chandra and other guests. The school choir sang a melodious German song. The Principal, Dr.D.R.Saini warmly welcomed all the guests who were presented with bouquets. A fusion dance was performed by the students. The Quizmasters for the day, Ms.Vanita Sehgal, Headmistress of the middle school and Ms.Padma Srinivasan, Head of Department of History, started the proceedings. They invited Ms.Renu Mital and Ms.Puneet Kaur, to talk about the programme. The latter spoke to the audience about the objectives of the programme, that of generating interest in the history and culture of Germany among students especially since Germany was a subject opted for by many in the school. A power point presentation ‘Glimpses of the Zonal rounds’ was shown. Mr.Eberhard Weller and Ms.Nicole Menzenbach discussed the importance of learning about a country’s culture and heritage for students, especially when they are learning the language. The final rounds of the National Quiz took place. The questions encompassed all aspects of German culture –its history, economy, political and legal system, foreign policy, education, science and technology, visual and performing arts, architecture and designing. The much awaited moment of the prize distribution arrived soon. Mrs.Archana Pentel, Head of Political Science Department and Co-ordinator of the programme invited the Chairman and other guests to give away the prizes. The first position was bagged by L’cole Chempaka , Thiruvananthapuram who got a cash prize and the trophy. The Runners-up was Shivalik Public School, Chandigarh. All the participants were given certificates of participation. Various tokens were presided to the teachers associated with the quiz. The vote of thanks was delivered by the Vice Principal, Mrs.Shobha Mehta. It was a great learning experience and left the audience enriched with plenty of interesting information about Germany and its rich cultural heritage.
